Steep Ravine Cabin Heaven

I spent three amazing days at one of the Steep Ravine cabins with my friend Julie. It was fantastic! Here are some of the notes I made in my journal:

Sitting in the cabin at 6:45 AM. It’s getting light out, sunrise is in about half an hour. The fairy lights are perfect for being able to see, but don’t detract from the coziness. The coffee is good – Trader Joe’s dark roast, I made mine extra strong. There’s a fishing boat in the water, looks like a clear morning after last night‘s rain which started after we were safely ensconced in the cabin and had a fire going, which kept us very warm. At one point I was down to a short sleeve shirt! I slept on top of my sleeping bag most of the night only getting inside it after a 2:30 AM bathroom run when I stayed outside a while, marveling at all the stars, the only light lights were from a few houses in Bolinas and Stinson Beach.

During the daytime were had the window open to better hear the ocean, played a couple of games of Skip-bo which Julie had never played and really liked. We wandered  around the campground and decided site 6 was our favorite for the view and privacy. I think some of the other sites are more protected, depending on where the wind’s coming from. It was lovely to sit there at the table and chat while enjoying the view. We discovered that they do sell wood here so we could get more if we needed it. We had a yummy dinner of tomato and roasted red bell pepper soup with a harvest salad and toasted ciabatta rolls with hot honey goat cheese and Moscato wine, it was a great combination. Boy, it’s heaven here. I’m so glad we’ve got another night to enjoy and this time it’ll be without rain. I’m sleeping in the little alcove in the main room which was so lovely and warm with a great view. There were incredible stars after the clouds cleared.

In the morning we walked to the campground to watch the sunrise, which was absolutely gorgeous. We’re so lucky to be here and enjoy this beauty. Back at the cabin we’ve just been sitting and talking while watching the waves now that the sun‘s getting higher it’s starting to hit the waves and the spray is sparkling.

Julie and I decided to get out for a hike to the Steep Ravine ladder, then went into town to pick up bread from the Parkside Bakery- Kalamata olive and basil levain. Delicious!

We watched the sunset from site number six, absolutely stunning. There was a group of 20-somethings hanging out on the large rock nearby, the scramble to get up there looked terrifying!

We took our time packing up on Thursday,  neither of us wanting to leave. On our way out we found a campsite that’s even more private and has an even better view than #6, so I think if we go camping there instead of staying in a cabin, that’s the one we would choose. We stopped at the spring and filled up our water bottles, then found the Red Rock Beach Trail and took it all the way down to a very rocky beach where we tried to find some tide pools, but I think the water wasn’t out far enough. It’s apparently a nude beach so we decided to turn around and head back up again. It was a wonderful couple of days in such a beautiful place.
