On my last day in Sweden I decided to take the ferry back to the southern archipelago as I wanted more time to look around Styrsö in particular. Near where I was staying there is a free 5 minute ferry to Stenpiren where the ferry leaves to go directly to the southern archipelago once each day. It was so relaxing to be able to go for a short walk then travel by ferry and just watch the scenery go by.

I got off on Styrsö and headed to the other side of the island where I had not been able to explore last time. I saw a sign for a walking trail to the church and decided to follow that as I wanted to see if I could check out the inside of the church. It was a beautiful nature trail, the day was warming up so I also appreciated the shade of the trees.

I made my way over to the less touristy side of the island where there were lots of cute wooden houses and beautiful gardens. I really like being in a place where there are no cars, though folks do whip around in their golf carts very quickly! The local Amazon delivery cart passed me and I walked past a stand set up at the side of the road where a local was selling his self-published book. He wasn’t there, just a table with a stack of books and a QR code for payment. No worries about theft here.

I went to Öbergska for lunch, it was busy and I lucked out getting a table in the shade away from the street where asphalting was taking place. I couldn’t get over the fact that the asphalt workers, who all appeared to be in their 20s, were wearing t-shirts and shorts! Guess they don’t have the same kind of safety regulations we do in the US.

It was wonderful taking my time wandering around. While I enjoyed riding bikes last time, I was able to appreciate the scenery more at a walking pace. On my way back home afterwards I saw a swan in the harbor!

After dinner I walked to a local park to listen to some live music. The lead singer was energetic and earnest, if not a bit corny. He and many of the band members were dressed in vintage 70s clothes- velvet and striped bell bottoms, ruffled and flowered shirts- it brought strong Partridge Family vibes. They had a vocal and enthusiastic cheering section, it was very cute. Later I went for another swim in the lagoon pools before they closed for the night. It felt so good at the end of the day to play in the water then get dried off and warmed up before heading to bed. I need to do this at home!

Love seeing what the other parts of the island looked like. That was a great spot to explore.
