Hiking, milkshakes and BBQ

Today I woke up to a beautiful dawn and watched the sunrise, I love being able to do this so often! Javi and I watched a farmer plow the fields next to our place, it was pretty cool watching the transformation of the field.

I headed out on a hike, stopping at the local coffee shop, French Press Coffee, which is owned by a local woman and her French-born husband and has delicious French pastries- I got a beet and chèvre croissant and a pain au chocolat – yummy!  I also stopped at the 3 free little libraries in Driggs, the town I drove through to get to the trailhead. I was so impressed with the creative and adorable free little libraries in that little town. One of them was made out of an old bee hive!

Today’s hike took me to the Jedediah Smith Wilderness in the Caribou-Targhee National Forest. The trail meandered through lovely cool forest and warmer flower-filled meadows, something I have not seen in California in a couple of years. Halfway through the hike I realized this would have been a board meeting day for me- and I was very grateful that I was on this gorgeous hike instead of in an office preparing for a meeting (sorry Jody!) On my way back to the car I ran into a couple that had just encountered a bear on the trail and let me know that they scared him away but to be alert. I had bear spray with me and knew how to use it, but it made for a more stressful hike back. I had the bear spray in my hand ready to go, but didn’t see or hear a thing. Whew!

On my drive back I ran into a dust storm, it was crazy windy and threatened to rain all afternoon but we didn’t get any. ☹️ Though the temps are nothing like those in California (I hope everyone is keeping cool!!), it has been in the low 90s here so Javi and I ran into town to get milkshakes from the local emporium. Huckleberry for Christina and Muddy River (basically a liquid Reese’s peanut butter cup) for me. Perfect afternoon treat. We found an adorable tiny house and another cool little free library.

Dinner was at the Big Hole BBQ, where a very full glass of wine was only $9 – we are definitely not in the Bay Area! The burger and onion rings were delicious. Good thing I hiked for awhile today!

We got back home just in time to watch the sunset, another wonderful day. I really don’t ever wanna go back to work!
