We had a couple more days of unsettled weather this week. On Wednesday it alternated from sunny to short spurts of hard, driving rain. I managed to get out for a walk at lunch during a sunny patch and saw a beautiful, dramatic sky. On my way home I got to explore a new-to-me walking path in Mill Valley after I stopped by the library to pick up a book.
I had been summoned for jury duty on Thursday but found out the night before that I didn’t need to serve, so had an unexpected free day. What a treat! I had been promising to defrost the stand-alone freezer that was rapidly becoming a large hunk of frosted ice, so did that while working on an article about ‘untethering’ I am hoping to get published and preparing for my upcoming State Bar commission meeting. Later I headed to the Marin Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA) to check out their exhibits. The Gertrud Parker exhibition was very interesting – a variety of art forms, many incorporating ‘gut’ into them.
While I enjoyed the exhibits, I was absolutely captivated by the artist studios at the museum. The variety of often whimsical art that lined the walls of the studios and staircases drew me in. I ended up walking up and down the hallways several times. I was able to peer into the lovely light-filled studios to see the artist’s workspaces and saw several artists in action. I definitely want to go back and spend time observing and talking to the artists, something I didn’t do this time as I was filled up just looking at the artwork on display. It was so inspiring and made me want a space like this with other artists nearby to draw ideas from.
Afterwards I went for a walk on the nearby Bay Trail where the dominant sounds were of birds and dogs (and their humans) walking on the trail. Several dogs came up to greet me as I sat writing in the sunshine, such a lovely way to spend the afternoon. The neighborhood is what used to be the former Hamilton AirField and seems to be a great mix of housing, industry and community and nature spaces. If it had a tiny home community I would definitely consider living there.
