Jackson Hole Hiking and a Barn in Victor

This morning I went for a hike in the nearby national forest just after sunrise, what a wonderful time of the day to be outside.

Christina had to work so I had the day to myself. I headed to the Jackson Hole Mountain Resort and took the tram all the way to the top of the mountain – over 10,000 feet. The view was incredible if a little hazy in some areas due to the fires in Idaho. When I got to the top I stopped at Corbett‘s Cabin and enjoyed one of their famous waffles with brown sugar butter, it was a delicious start to my hike. I decided to challenge myself and hiked the Cirque trail over to the Bridger tram. It was a 1.8 mile hike that descended over 1400 feet, but entailed going down some very steep sections and scrambling over rocks and uneven terrain as well as skirting around the side of the mountain! I was very grateful for my hiking poles! I took my time on the hike and was very proud of myself for getting through some of the tricky spots.

At about the three-quarter mark there was a picnic table up on the bluff so I sat there and had my lunch and read my book, We Run the Tides. It is set in San Francisco in 1984 and centers around a group of eighth grade girls. It brought back so many memories since I was only a few years older than those girls at that time. The clothes they wore, the music they listened to, the things that parents did, definitely identified with a lot of it! After I finished the hike I hung out and enjoyed the view before taking the tram back down to the village base.

Tonight after Christina was done with work we packed up and headed to Victor, Idaho where we are staying in a converted barn for the next two days. It is a lovely space with 20 foot ceilings and lots of fantastic touches. We arrived just in time to have a glass of wine and snacks as we watched the sunset from the deck. A lovely way to finish the day. I made salad and pasta for dinner and then chilled out for a while in the hammock that was inside the barn!
