Montmorency Falls

Today I decided I needed to be in a more nature-oriented area, hopefully with less people so I took the bus to the Parc de la Chute-Montmorency, a park with a huge waterfall (higher than Niagara Falls!).

I spent most of the day walking around the falls and surrounding area. There was a group of preschoolers there, they were all roped together and their teachers were carefully walking them across the suspension bridge over the falls. Even though there was no way they could fall off the bridge, that would’ve still been pretty nerve-racking. I saw them later after they had walked through the forest and were going through a tunnel and they were all screaming to hear the echoes off of the walls. It was adorable.

Even though it was very crowded going across the suspension bridge once I took side paths to wander in the forest or explore other areas there was almost no one around, so that made me very happy. There were beautiful views from the suspension bridge, the observation decks, and the many stairs that it takes to get to the base of the falls. There was a gorgeous rainbow at the base of the falls.

You can walk most of the way around the waterfall but it’s not a complete loop, so you either have to turn around and walk back or take the cable car up to the top of the park. If you decide to walk you have to go back up 487 steps. I opted to pay the $11 for the quick cable car ride. Apparently I was projecting a double next to me both when I bought my admission ticket into the park and then when I bought my ticket for the cable car. Both times they tried to charge me for two tickets – oh and we were conversing in English both times!  When I indicated no, it was just me they were very apologetic and then gave me the senior discount. Oh well, if I can save a buck or two by looking over 65 that is fine. But I’m definitely not two people!

What I did NOT do at the falls:

The bus home passed through cute neighborhoods with lovely old houses, but going too fast for me to take pictures. I stopped at a little café called Joe Cool for a decaf coffee and to update my blog. I could tell it was getting close to the weekend because as I walked through the neighborhood there were lots of people in the restaurants and cafés.
