Fourth Stop – Seattle

Another day, another ferry. This one took us into Seattle where we stayed with our cousins Janet and Bing in the North Beacon Hill neighborhood. Before we left I had a last walk on Vashon.

The next two days were filled with lots of catching up with many different cousins – some we had not seen in a very long time. It really made me realize the importance of regular get togethers with extended family.

One night we had dinner at a restaurant on Lake Washington – because it was such a warm evening there were people enjoying the water in speedboats, sailboats, paddle boards and kayaks. Further on we saw people swimming and picnicking by the water. The whole time we were there it was very hot weather for Seattle – in the mid to high 80s.

Another night we had dinner at the senior housing complex where my aunt lives. Her kids call it a dorm for seniors, there are a ton of amenities including a library, pool and ping-pong tables, aquatic center, gym and rooms for various hobbies such as sewing and wood working. In addition they have lots of different activities going on, including political candidate debates. Definitely a fantastic place to retire.

The Japanese gardens were a real treat – gorgeous trees, huge Koi, and an indigo art exhibit.

We played with their dogs, Rosalia (who was very shy) and Dobby (who was not) and Bing’s gecko loved climbing on Lori.

One morning I checked out the free little libraries and another morning I got out on a walk up to Lincoln Park, there is a ‘Food Forest’ where people in need can pick fruit and veggies. The area had originally been a park, then was converted to a reservoir when Seattle began  growing bigger, finally after 9/11 it was deemed a potential terrorist target so was converted back to a park which has become very popular. There are views of downtown, the Space Needle, the mountains.
