Emmy came over today to hang out with Mom and I in the afternoon, then we drove up to Santa Rosa to a lavender farm called Bees N Blooms. Emmy was helping me celebrate my birthday a week early by participating in a sound bath in the middle of the lavender labyrinth at the farm. It is a gorgeous place, the labyrinth is created out of hundreds of lavender bushes of all different types of lavender. Apparently it’s the largest labyrinth in the state of California! We got there early and had time to walk the labyrinth and explore the farm a little bit.
They have a large population of ducks and geese and at one point, we saw the ducks walking in a line across the roadway, so adorable!
We brought our yoga mats, blankets and pillows to the center of the labyrinth where the sound bath was to take place. There were all kinds of musical instruments, including several gongs, singing bowls, a didgeridoo and several instruments I’d never seen before. One of the organizers smudged us with burning sage and we found a spot to settle in. The sound bath featured many different kinds of sounds, at first it felt very chaotic and loud, though for me it helped to have all that noise because that kept me so focused on the sound, so much was going on my mind couldn’t distract me. Eventually things calmed down and there were often only one or two instruments going at one time. One sounded exactly like waves crashing at the ocean, another like shells clinking together. There was a breeze blowing over us so the feel of the wind on my face added to the sensations from the sounds. At the end we all sat up keeping our eyes closed and did some chanting using our chakras (yes, very woo-woo, but I like that sort of thing!). Afterwards I felt so totally relaxed, it was incredible. What an awesome experience, I would totally do that again.
