Fun With Family

Today I took mom to Sonoma to visit her friend Ann. It’s so neat to see them together, often talking about when they were single and living with a bunch of other nurses 60 years ago. (That’s when their rent in San Francisco with some thing like $150 a month!) Afterwords we stopped at Larson Family Winery to pick up my wine club order. and do some wine tasting. All the various dogs came over to say hello – Larson Family Winery is known for its 3 Lab Cab named after their Labs (they are always at least 3 of various hues). Being a Thursday afternoon in the spring there were very few other people there so we enjoyed a leisurely rock in one of the gliders as we sipped our wine and talked about mom’s wine tasting adventures from long ago when it was FREE to go wine tasting in Napa and Sonoma. Wow.

On Friday, my sister Lori, came over in the afternoon and we went into San Francisco to attend a candlelight concert at Saint Ignatius Church. A beautiful string quartet played the music of Warner Bros. movies and TV shows in the church lit solely by candles. It was such a gorgeous setting and the music was absolutely fantastic. It was so strange hearing songs like Prince’s Purple Rain, Singing In the Rain and the theme from Friends played by violins, viola, and cello. I would definitely go back to another concert like that again. Luckily the concert was early and only lasted an hour, because I had to drive to Marysville to my sons house. I’m going to be house and pet sitting for him and his girlfriend while they are on vacation in Texas, and they had a flight out of the Sacramento airport just after five on Saturday morning. When I left my moms place at about 815 pm it looked like I would be getting there around 10:30. Unfortunately traffic conspired against me, and there were major delays on Highway 37 as well as in Fairfield where there had been a couple of accidents on Highway 80. At first it looked like I wouldn’t be getting there until 1130, but things cleared up slightly so I arrived around 11:15. It meant I only got a couple of hours sleep before we had to get up and drive to the airport. Luckily, Kieran drove there and amazingly enough I felt awake enough to drive myself the 45 minutes back. I had planned on just finding a quiet place to pull over and take a nap for a little while. It was heavenly to get back in bed and know I didn’t have to be up at any specific time.
