I’ve mainly been hanging out with Winston. The first couple of days I was looking after him it was rainy, so I read – just finished The Sleepwalker by Chris Bohjalian, had a great twist at the end, now I’m onto The Serial by Cyra McFadden, a hilarious satire about Mill Valley in the 70s (it was also made into a movie starring Martin Mull which unsurprisingly did not do well) and Sparked by Jonathan Fields, fascinating learning about the different ‘sparktype’ personality types he has created.
I also watched Poker Face on Netflix, which was very impressive. I feel like anything with Natasha Lyonne is going to be worth watching, it was great to see all the different guest appearances as well (Judith Light and S. Epatha Merkerson are hilarious as old lady hippies!). I also was able to finish watching the first season of Our Flag Means Death, which I had started on the flight to New Zealand back in November. It is such a funny show, Taika Waititi is absolutely fantastic. He’s another actor that I enjoy in pretty much everything I see him in.
Also been going for walks around the neighborhood, saw a couple of free little libraries made out of old newspaper stands. The creeks are still pretty high, it’s great to see so much water flowing where before it was just dried mud.
Got to catch up with a friend over dinner one night and went for a hike at Redwood Regional Park with another friend. There were lots of fallen trees, it looks like the park staff and volunteers have been very busy. I am so grateful that they were able to do so much clearing work so that many of the trails could stay open.
It’s been really nice just taking things at a slower pace, I like seeing the world at 3 miles an hour.
