Day 12 Pontevedra to Caldas de Reis

This is our 3rd to last day on the Camino! As Vizzini would say ‘Inconceivable!’ Today’s walk was about 13.5 miles, mostly in lovely forested areas with the occasional side trip on cobblestone roads and tarmac.

We got an earful when we walked into a church and the bells started ringing like crazy! Maybe it was God’s way of reminding us it was Sunday??

We stopped at an albergue to have our lunch and use the bathroom, making sure to leave some money in the bathroom donation box as a thank you for providing such important services!

We checked out the waterfalls and old watermills at Ria Barosa Natural park, there was lots more to explore but we still had about 7k left till our destination so we headed on.

It was a humid day and we had the occasional spits of rain, though nothing heavy at all. The smell of rain on the dirt was lovely!

We finally made it to Caldas de Reis and had a celebratory drink before checking out the thermal water they are famous for (it was hot!!)

The place we are staying was a few kilometers outside of town, so we got picked up by the owner, Marianne. We were instantly captivated when we arrived- Casa a Pedreira is gorgeous! We got settled in as a light rain began to fall. It is too bad we weren’t here during the hot weather, the pool and other outdoor features are wonderful. But the inside is very cozy with lots of places to sit and relax. Just what we need!

Even more reasons to love Casa a Pedriera

1) the owners adorable dog, Luna.

2) The amazing dinner she made us – homemade bread, salad, spicy mussels, steak with a cream dip and crème with passion fruit sauce. The cost including a glass of wine was $30 per person!
