Day 8 Valenca to O Porrino

And we are off on the second half of our Camino! The route took us through the fortress so we got to see what it was like at 8am – very quiet and a little spooky especially as we made our way down and to the bridge over the Rio Minho to Spain.

Espana! We made our way to Tui, passing a tennis/basketball/football (soccer) field, a pilgrim statue and a mural, traveling on the ubiquitous cobblestone streets.

The Tui cathedral is something else- towering and intimidating in its size and architecture. The bells are impressive and the organ is massive!

We were intrigued by the confessionals that give the confessor no privacy.

Lots of beautiful sights in shady surroundings. We met a guy from Germany raising money for an albergue in Tui.

We crossed a couple more bridges that were over 500 years old!

Two of the wonderful surprises today:

1. Hearing bagpipes as we walked in the woods and finding two men busking (they also had a passport stamp!)

2. Coming across a cafe in a beautiful backyard setting. Hearing our names called as we entered by Camino friends we met a few days earlier and kept bumping into, then sitting with our Kiwi mates. Delicious coffee and Santiago cake -yummy!

We took the ‘Complementario’ route instead of the traditional Camino because it was a shadier and more scenic route. As we were walking 12.5 miles today in 90 degree heat we wanted as much shade as we could get!

We loved that one house had a mailbox and a breadbox!! Sign me up

After dinner Michelle went to the local pastelaria and got some goodies. Then Theresa went for a wander in our neighborhood as the lights stayed coming on. It was incredible to see how many families with young kids were still out after 8:30pm on a school night.

There is a self-service CBD dispenser down the street!
