Day 3 Barcelos to Balugues

We got started at 8:30 this morning, our earliest start yet. It was a short walk day, only 9.5 miles, but the weather is starting to heat up, creeping into the low 80s and our feet, legs and hips are starting to feel the cumulative mileage.

Making our way out of Barcelos, we saw lots of rural landscapes, it was wonderful being away from city noises and traffic. We encountered a couple of very noisy sheep! Lovely views all around.

We passed lots of churches and a few were even open to explore. Also saw many Camino signs and stone crosses indicating nearby churches. After a pretty steady uphill climb we were grateful to start downhill towards our accommodation. We crossed a 14th century bridge with a beautiful pond and one of us took off her shoes and socks to cool her tootsies- ahhh heaven!!

We were excited to see the blue door indicating the entrance to our home for the night. We were even more excited to discover we had a whole apartment to ourselves again, this time with two bedrooms, a proper kitchen and even a sitting area! The place consists of several small buildings surrounded by shady grassy areas. We are feeling very pampered!

Most places we have stayed have an honor system minibar, where you write down what you’ve consumed and pay when you leave. At this place you can choose different wines and other drinks, snacks, tea and coffee, all located in the central breakfast area and just fill out a form indicating what you took. Wow! Very different from the US.

Went for a little wander, got drinks and brought dinner back to have at our place. A beautiful evening and end to day 3!
