Beach Time

I’ve been to four different beaches in the last four days! While I enjoy going to the beach, it’s not something that I tend to do a lot even though there are several beaches within a short drive of where I live. Going to the beach at Point Reyes with Lori and Javi on Sunday motivated me to take Javi out to a few other beaches while I had the chance. On Sunday we went to Muir Beach at sunset. There were a few big groups gathered around bonfires and lots of other folks walking the beach with their dogs. Javi was in heaven, running around like a little kid frisking in the water and chasing the ball. It was a nice break from getting ready for my trip to Cody and all the things that I needed to get done before I left.

On Monday, I was meeting a friend in San Francisco so Javi and I went to Baker Beach in the morning. Again, he was thrilled to run around chasing the ball, though he didn’t get in the water as much. A trio of young women visiting from Colorado asked if I would take a photo of them using an old school camera that had a winder to advance the film. My friend gave me Meyer lemons from her tree so I made lemon bread when I got home. Later that night I picked my sister up from the airport, she had a fantastic time at spring training and Javi was very happy to see his mom.

The next morning, I headed to Tennessee Valley Beach, a place where dogs aren’t allowed which is why I left that for when Javi was back with his mom. As I was headed to the beach a teenage bobcat walked out onto the path in front of me. He did not seem scared of me, I think he was a little lost. Later I saw a salamander walking across the fire road. The recent storms had really done a number on the beach. A huge section of the sand had been stripped away, leaving large rocks and driftwood. Being early on a Wednesday morning there were very few other people around and I had the beach to myself for a while. Recently I’ve been listening to meditations from a podcast called The Wise Effort Show and have really been enjoying them. The host has a wonderful way of leading the meditations, and the topics are interesting. I listened to one on equanimity that I found to be very practical and helpful.

That afternoon I finished packing for my trip, got some work done and made a few phone calls for my final judicial investigations, I can’t believe that in about six weeks I will be all done! I am very excited to head to Cody and spend time in what is for me a magical place. Off on a new adventure!
