No Prisoner Be

It’s been a good week – a great combination of being outdoors, spending time with friends, getting work done, both paid and on my own projects. I also found two jobs I was interested in and applied for them!

On Saturday, I went for a walk at Dillon Beach with a friend and her sweet puppy. I haven’t been out there for quite a while, it was wonderful – tons of surfers and people walking their dogs on the beach. On the way home, we saw Highland cows in a gorgeous green field, they could care less about us!

On Sunday, I puttered around doing a bit of this and that during the day and in the evening went to the Green Music Center at Sonoma State to see a show called Emily – No Prisoner Be performed by Time for Three and Joyce DiDonato, mezzosoprano. It was an absolutely amazing show! They put 20 of Emily Dickinson‘s poems to music and it was electric and mournful and energetic, all the descriptors! They had the audience participate in the final poem, No Prisoner Be, which was haunting. I’ve never been to the Green Music Center, it’s relatively new and a fabulous venue. I’m really glad I got to see this piece there as it is a smaller venue than Zellerbach Hall at Berkeley where they are playing next. This performance was their US debut, they’re embarking on a three year tour with this piece, especially wanting to get kids excited about poetry. This sure is an incredible way to do it.

During the week I spent time crafting a functional résumé and participated in a workshop on the topic with other people who serve as interim executive directors. Rewriting my resume that way (with a little help from Claude.ai I admit!) was a cool experience and helped me to look at my skills and experience in a new way. I’m hoping it will help for the two jobs that I applied for this week – one as an Interim Executive Director for a statewide Association and the other as a Community Engagement Manager for a Bay Area environmental group. I’m excited about both the jobs, hopefully I hear back from at least one of them for an interview. I also spent time cleaning out drawers and cabinets in the house, finding maps dating back over 30 years! Mom cleaned out some of her drawers and found letters that I sent to them when I first moved to New Zealand in 1990 – wow. I got out for a few wanders too- see pics below.

One morning I went to Sausalito to watch the sunrise, it’s nice being there early in the morning during the week when there aren’t many tourists around. In addition to paid work, I put time in on my gap guide and did some collage art.  I also helped my mom out with insurance stuff, took her to the bank and to get some more lab work done.
