Saturday saw us packing up yet again and heading back to Gothenburg. We stopped first at Bohus Fästning, a medieval fortress built in the early 13th century. It was much bigger than it appeared from down below, and we spent quite a while exploring all the different areas from the basement dungeons up to the top of the tower via a VERY steep spiral stone staircase. We also both took a turn at jousting! We had really lucked out with the weather on our trip, the few times it had rained had either been not very much or when we had been inside, and the same was true on Saturday. We stopped to have some lunch at a little café and when it started to rain, we moved Indoors. By the time we got to the place we were staying in Gothenburg the rain had let up, so we were grateful for that. While our sleeping quarters were much smaller than the suite we had enjoyed the last couple of nights, the views of the water were great.

Stacy went out for a walk in town while I sat outside and watched the sailboats go past. We met up later at a traditional Swedish restaurant and had delicious Swedish meatballs and shrimp salad. We’ve had shrimp salad almost every day since she’s been here. Then it was back to the ship to plan our outing for the next day – on the way we got ice cream and saw a rainbow! We were hoping for good weather as we wanted to take the ferry to the archipelago and explore some of the islands there.
