I was back looking after my buddy Rosco in San Rafael for a few days. In between our wanders in the neighborhood, I popped down to downtown San Rafael to check out the open art Studios and found a classic car show on Fourth Street. My dad and my son Kieran would have loved to go to this together.

The open studios were much more than I expected. I couldn’t get over the number and variety of artists in what used to be an old Opera House. I only wished I’d had more time to check them out, but I will definitely make a trip back there the next time I’m in San Rafael.

I was also able to get out to my new favorite hiking meditation spot in the San Rafael Hills. It was very peaceful and a great way to start my Mother’s Day.

I got to celebrate Mother’s Day with most of my sisters, my son and daughter-in-law to be, and all of my nephews. My brother-in-law made an amazing taco bar spread with plenty for vegans and carnivores alike! The side counter was groaning with homemade desserts from other folks in the family. There were almost as many dogs there as people, and they mostly had a great time running around after each other and looking for treats. There were a few skirmishes with the smaller dogs in attendance, but soon everybody seemed to be getting along fine. The weather was perfect and it was just so nice to all hang out together.

Emmy had to work on Mother’s Day so we got together the next day for some lunch and then out for wine tasting at Larson family winery. Because it had been rainy earlier in the day and it was a Monday, we were the only ones there most of the time, which was fine with us as usually we’ve been there on the weekend when it’s been very, very crowded. I was also very happy to have someone one on one time with her. Afterwards, I stopped by a sculpture garden that I have driven past for years and never had the opportunity to check out. I met the artist’s son and had a look around.

I saw striking full moon on my way back from the grocery store on Monday night. It was magical!
