Started my weekend with a beautiful hike on the Allen Trail in Kentfield with Heather. After some grey days we had a gorgeous morning and saw beautiful waterfalls and trees covered in moss and ferns. Except for locals walking their dogs or out for a run it was pretty quiet. This was a new trail for both of us and I’m ready to go back and hike it again.

I headed back to Green Gulch for zazen and a fantastic dharma talk. Because of the rain I didn’t hike over, but I did park at Muir Beach and walked over, avoiding most of the rain but encountering lots of wind! It was wonderful to hear from a woman, the former Abbess at Green Gulch. Afterwards I caught up with a few folks then spent some time watching the wild waves at Muir Beach.

I’ve also been working, reading (just finished an excellent novel called I Am the Cage) and doing collage and mini journal work. This morning (Tuesday) I walked to the Marin City library to drop off a couple of books and was treated to gorgeous sunrise views of Richardson Bay. I’ve been soaking up as much beauty as I can to help counter the sadness I’ve been feeling about an old friend’s recent diagnosis of a brain tumor. Life sure throws curveballs sometimes. Hopefully the combination of surgery, chemo and radiation will get rid of it. You just never know what’s around the corner, good or bad.
