I recently learned about the Owl Trail which goes from the Muir Beach Overlook to Slide Ranch. I have no idea how long it’s been strong but I’d never been on it so I took advantage of the sunny weather on Wednesday afternoon and drove over. It’s only about 15 minutes from home, so easy to get there. What a fantastic trail! It is below and parallel to Hwy 1 and most of the time you can’t hear the traffic. The views are stunning! It is relatively flat and is perfect short evening hike.

I saw the goats and sheep at Slide Ranch and just being there brought back memories of going with my Campfire Girl troop to learn about nature and animals. I remember the yurt and the fennel forest and a bonfire beneath the pine trees. It’s got more modern buildings now, but the same kind of funky laid back feeling. I will definitely go back and do that hike again.

On Thursday I worked on my gap year book, submitted an application for a Deputy Director position that interested me, took Javi on a couple of walks and got stuff ready for our annual sister’s weekend. Part of that entailed going grocery shopping at the local Safeway which is across the street from my high school. I happened to be there during lunchtime and the place was packed with students getting food. I mentioned to the checker that it brought back memories of me doing the same thing when I was a student at Tam. She asked me how long ago that was and I almost said ‘25 years’ but then realized it had been 40 (!!!) years since I was in high school. How did that happen?

Sister’s weekend started when Mom and I headed to Spud Point Crab Company in Bodega Bay for their out of this world New England clam chowder. It doesn’t matter how many times I have it, it always tastes better than I remember, and it was even better on a cold, grey day. Next stop was the grocery store in Gualala to pick up a couple of last minute items, I was glad we brought eggs from home as they were totally sold out, thank you bird flu. We arrived at our Airbnb and were thrilled- it is such a cool place with stone sculptures and outdoor art everywhere! Javi couldn’t get enough of all the scents as we checked out part of the 30 acre property. Can’t wait to explore more tomorrow!
