Sunday Enjoyment

Had a wonderful Sunday. It started with a hike on the Steep Ravine Trail -so lush after the rains and since it was early on a cold Sunday morning I had the trail to myself almost the whole time. Such a treat! I saw a salamander and mushrooms.

I got back and spent a few happy hours repurposing collages to use as covers for journals and notebooks. Then finally got back to working on my gap year guide. It has been months since I’ve put time into it and it felt good to put pen to paper.

I got out for an evening walk and saw an interesting Christmas lawn decoration- Santa riding an elephant! Also got to watch The Little Drummer Boy, a short but touching movie that came out the year I was born. Greer Garson is the narrator, she sounds exactly like the woman who narrated the Christmas pageant at church when I was a kid.

For my second day of looking for Celtic omens, I noticed the tree branches on my hike. I saw that they’re usually twisted. I’m assuming that’s how they grow, having to twist to find the best path to the sun and the the rain. Those twisty branches are so much more interesting than the straight ones – they give the tree character and beauty. If they were all ramrod straight it wouldn’t be as interesting, but they’re all different. Just as we all grow differently and that’s what makes us interesting and unique. We don’t want all be the same.

Feb 24 memories – MCBA Installation event, hearing Ross Gay read his poetry at the Mill Valley public library, touring the Point Bonita lighthouse with Heather, a tree falling in the neighborhood and cutting of power for a couple of days, a youth symphony performance with Mom, a Ridge Trail hike with Julie on Mt Tam where we had to scramble over fallen trees, Kieran getting his Class A drivers license, snow weekend with Chrissy and the boys in Dunsmuir (playing in the snow, playing Clue & walking behind a waterfall!), booking my trip to Paris, discovering Marin MOCA and being inspired, ferry rides to and from the city, beautiful full moon by the Bay Bridge, blooming cherry trees. Finishing up at MCBA, thinking about what was next…
