Horsetail Falls Take 2

On Friday I headed back to hike Horsetail Falls. I’m glad I went in the morning as it was a pretty steady uphill hike, and it was nice to have slightly cooler weather. It was a fantastic hike, basically right next to the river and falls the whole time, so incredible views. It brought back wonderful memories of Two Sentinels Girl Scout camp, going for hikes around the lake and in the surrounding areas. I only met a few people on my way up, but on the way back there were several couples and groups heading up to the top of the waterfall, many with very happy dogs. I’m not sure whether I reached the base of the falls or not, but I got to the point where I was having to scramble up increasingly larger rocks, and decided that was enough for me for the day. I was proud of the effort I had put in. I did manage to trip at one point skinning my leg my shin quite well and causing my water bottle to go flying out of my backpack. Luckily it got rolled to a place in between two rocks and I was able to retrieve it. When I got back to the bottom, I cooled my feet off in the icy cold water, it felt like heaven, at least for the first 30 seconds or so! I noticed there was a wooden cross nailed to a tree nearby, what a sad reminder of what can happen in wilderness area like this.

And yes, I again checked out more of the quilt squares, which allowed me to explore the back roads around Placerville and Camino. I can’t get over how many apple farms there are here! It’s been a long time since I was out here during apple season, I’ll have to make plans to do that in the fall.
