I got out for a couple of morning walks while I was in LA. Downtown areas are not my favorite place to go walking, but early in the morning it wasn’t too noisy, especially on Saturday, and there was a Philz Coffee nearby so I treated myself to a Philtered Soul (creamy with just a little bit of sugar). I passed some cool sculptures and signs on my wanders.
My JNE commission meeting went well. It was the final meeting for the current chair and the folks who have just finished their third year on the commission. It was bittersweet saying goodbye to them. They’ve all served as incredible mentors for those of us who just completed our first year. Justin, the chair, is an incredible human being, I have learned so much from him about leading and motivating a group. I feel so lucky to be working with all of these amazing people. I got to know some of the new commissioners, and remembered what it was like being in their shoes last year watching our first meeting and feeling both excited and terrified.
The flight back home was on time, which I was very grateful for. I sat next to a woman who was on her way to Croatia to conduct an orchestra for a series of concerts, featuring jazz music of all things! It was fascinating watching her make notes on the scores she was working on, sometimes she would move her fingers or hands or hum a little bit. You just never know you are going to meet on your travels.
A very exciting thing happened yesterday, my cousin Gwen‘s daughter, Rheanna, had a baby! Side note – I can never remember if she is my cousin’s kids are second cousins or some kind of cousin once removed, I really need to figure that out. Anyway, Rheanna is in the same generation as my kids. So, this is the first baby in the next generation of Obergs! Going with Oberg family tradition she had a girl, mom and baby are doing well. It really doesn’t seem like it was that long ago that my generation was having kids. The wheel of time has done quite a few more turns I guess.
