I have been struggling this week with motivation, feeling lost and unsure about what’s next. I took some time to sit quietly in the morning and it helped me feel a bit calmer. These things also helped me feel renewed:
Hanging my laundry out to dry on a warm day
Working with Mom to plant tomato plants in the backyard and flowers in the front window box
Going to my nephew Theo’s baseball game, where he hit the RBI to tie up the game (the grin on his face was priceless!) – final score Yard Goats 8, Iron Pigs 8. I enjoyed just being present -listening to the parents supporting and cheering on their kids, the coaches encouragement, the frogs steadily getting louder as the game progressed, the warm sun, watching the kids do well, do poorly, keep trying, just enjoying the game and having fun. The fact that it was a tie game was great, both teams were happy with their accomplishments and hard work and no one won or lost. They both won! There was a younger sibling playing in the grass nearby and who hurt – of course it was the kid whose mom was keeping the game stats! She was embarrassed she hadn’t realized it was her son crying – we’ve all been there. She comforted him with hugs and a lollipop and soon he was fine.
Working on my gap year guide and seeing the ups and downs I’ve been through. Realizing the importance of being kind to myself.
Watching Call the Midwife with Mom. I have loved that show since the first season over 10 years ago and it is a rare episode that doesn’t me make me cry, often in joy, though not always. One of tonight’s storylines was about a main character who had to be hooked up to a ventilator. That brought back memories of when my dad was in the ICU on a ventilator. Luckily, like the character in the show, my dad got better and was able to go off the ventilator. Unlike the character in the show, my dad decided to unintubate himself! But that’s a story for another day.
