I’ve spent the last three days mainly hanging out at the house with Otis, though I did run a couple of errands. I was so impressed with how helpful people were. First was a CVS employee who, after cheerfully assisting me with my purchase, recommended the local Chevron station as the best place nearby with clean bathrooms. I must have looked dubious, as she quickly assured me that they clean the bathrooms regularly. Since there didn’t appear to be any other options nearby, I decided to take a chance and sure enough not only was the bathroom cleaner than ones I’ve seen at most restaurants, when I came out one of the employees checked with me to make sure the restroom was clean. Wow! My next stop was at the bank to see about an issue I had with a check. The teller went the extra mile to make sure everything went smoothly.
On my way back home I stopped in at Green Apple Books, what a fantastic rabbit warren of a store! I found a place to sit and spent some time looking through a couple of books about Ruth Asawa, her artwork just captivates me. I also tried not to drool over a book I found about uncrowded hiking trails. I have now added more places to my list of areas I want to explore!
We got out for a few more beach walks before the rain started again on Thursday and also had fun exploring alleyways in the neighborhood. Many people have lavender growing in their yards and I helped myself to a sprig here and there. I ended up with a beautiful bouquet with many different types of lavender.
One morning I treated myself to a breakfast sandwich from Devils Tooth Bakery, sooo yummy! Every day I spent time collaging, working on my gap year guide, and watching Feud: Capote vs the Swans. It was so strange to see actresses from my generation playing what I consider to be much older women, but who were in reality close to the age I am now! I think as an 8 part series it was too long, but it was fascinating to learn about Truman Capote and his relationships with ultra rich society women.
