I’m feeling much better now and had a wonderful weekend, spending a lot of it outdoors, despite the rainy weather.
Javi and I met Michele and Julie in Martinez on Saturday morning for a walk around the waterfront, catching up on what’s been going on in our lives. I really miss regular walks with Michele, and I’m grateful for the opportunity to see her on her infrequent visits back to California. She’s looking at retiring from full-time work and collecting Social Security, so that she can afford to work part time. She’s got so many different interests and wants to have more time to pursue them and get to know her community better. I’m really excited for this new phase in her life, she’s somebody who gives so much to her family and community and I know she’s going to enjoy having more flexibility in her life.
The unsettled weather has made for some beautiful views of the sky, I got a great shot of the sun peeking through the clouds.
When I got home in the afternoon, Mom had found some old photos of the kids that were just adorable. I made chicken tortilla soup for dinner, perfect for a cold, rainy day.
On Sunday, Javi and I got out for a couple of walks, one where we went through a small park and found a beautiful arrangement of rocks and succulents in the shape of a heart. That kind of nature art always brings me such delight! It also inspired me to go home and do some more collage work, I lost myself in it for a couple of wonderful hours.
Later we went out to Rodeo Beach, which was almost completely deserted because of the on and off rain, not something that deters Javi in the least. He was in heaven, chasing the ball up and down the beach and ‘accidentally’ rolling it into the lagoon so he had to jump into the water to retrieve it!
On the way back, I stopped at the Headlands Center for the Arts to see the new poetry installment on the side of the building. There was a caterer making a huge batch of absolutely delicious looking paella for a celebration of life to be held nearby. I took the scenic route back to see foggy views of the Golden Gate Bridge and down into Kirby Cove, that place has such great memories for me and my kids.
