After yesterday‘s long hike I slept in and then one went out for what I intended to be a short half an hour walk, but ended up walking for about an hour and a half getting to know Jackson better. I discovered an amazing tree village in the park near where we are staying. So impressed with the creativity of the person who put this together, I love the use of natural materials. It’s done so well that you don’t notice the pieces as you walk by unless you have a good look at the trees.
After lunch I drove around Grand Teton National Park, stopping several times at turnouts to take pictures of the magnificent scenery. I decided not to go for a hike because it was pretty warm and being the Sunday of a holiday weekend all the trail head parking lots were completely full. There weren’t many people on the road, so I was able to drive at my own pace. The local rock station was playing 70s music and interspersing it with commercials, news and TV show intros from that decade. It brought back such memories! Big Red Gum, the Bionic Woman (I thought Lindsay Wagner was so cool), the I’m Just a Bill song from Schoolhouse Rock. I heard some childhood songs that I have probably not heard in decades, my favorite was Love Will Keep Us Together by Captain & Tennille. I’m sure anyone driving by me as I was singing along (and doing hand movements of course!) thought it was hilarious.
I checked out a couple of the churches in the park- beautiful wooden structures with gorgeous stained glass windows. The view behind the altar at the Episcopal Church of the Transfiguration was incredible, the church also had outdoor seating. What a fantastic idea in such an amazing setting. Finally I stopped at Dornan’s in Moose for ice cream, a lovely treat on a hot afternoon.
We had dinner near the river outside a little town called Wilson. It was a beautiful spot, perfect for enjoying a warm evening.
