I spent most of the weekend in San Francisco house and pet sitting. It was an opportunity to have a couple of lazy mornings on Saturday and Sunday – I still got up pretty early but enjoyed the time to journal and read. I had picked up some pumpkin pancake mix at Trader Joe’s so I made myself pancakes both mornings. I got to catch up with Diane, my freshman roommate in college. It was wonderful to hear what she’s been up to and what her kids are doing. It’s such a different world now that are kids are becoming adults. Otis and I had some nice long walks and spent a good part of Saturday afternoon in the backyard reading in the sunshine.
Later on Saturday I met my sister and some friends to check out Halloween festivities in different parts of the city. We spent a little time is the Castro, which is always great for checking out costumes, whether it’s Halloween or not! We saw a pumpkin pie eating contest and some cute outfits, especially on kids. Then we headed to Golden Gate Park, where we saw a rollerskating frog (he was really good!) Nearby was a dance party, taking place under huge letters that said ‘No Dancing’. Each of the letters included words from people who had been affected negatively by rules and oppression. This artwork is an effort to get people to break the rules and support others on their journeys. I can identify with that and was happy to be able to donate to the group that created this installation, Looking Up Arts.
Sunday afternoon I went over to Emmy’s to hang out with her and stayed for dinner. It was a lovely afternoon and we enjoyed watching Winston in his crazy antics, including trying to clean up all the spills in the dishwasher!
