Got up a little bit later this morning, but still woke up in time to see the day starting to lighten, then went up to the dome car and enjoyed a gorgeous sunrise. It’s migration time for the snow geese, we saw hundreds of birds flying together in the sky or stopping for a snack in the fields.
After breakfast, we stopped for about an hour in Saskatoon. It was brisk outside, but good to get out for a walk. It’s going to be a day going through the prairies, so probably not as interesting as other sections we’ve been through.
We passed an area with a huge wind turbine that looked like an elliptical sculpture, a lake with thousands of geese on it-they turned one section white! Also saw a large salt bed where the wind created a salt storm – very cool!
Later in the afternoon, I listened to a talk about the province of Alberta and the train went over a long trestle bridge.
We saw a beaver in one of the ponds near the train and a beautiful sunset before dinner. I had dinner with Kiki and Adam, Kiki is a caterer and lives in Ottawa, Adam is from Saudi Arabia and is doing a year long training in Canada. Kiki is always laughing and smiling, one of those people you want to hang out with at a party.
A quick stop in Edmonton then it was time for bed, we should be arriving in Jasper at 6:30am tomorrow so I want to get enough sleep!
