Today was my first full day in Montreal and I did a lot of walking! First thing I headed to a little café in my neighborhood and got an excellent latte and chocolate croissant that had just came out of the oven. Yum. After breakfast, I walked through a few different neighborhoods, passing gorgeous stone houses, wonderful murals and outdoor gathering spots. The picture below with the fuchsia seats shows the apartment that I am staying in at the end of the street.
At the old port area, and I took a ride on the giant Ferris wheel that gives fantastic views of Montreal and the St. Lawrence River.
Later I took a boat cruise on the St. Lawrence, a great thing to do on a warm day. The bridge has these adorable tiny Eiffel towers at the very top! The Stade Olympique tower leans more than the Leaning Tower of Pisa, though it was built that way on purpose. 🙂 Molson is the 2nd oldest company in Canada (Hudson Bay Trading Company is the oldest). I was also impressed that the boat had one men’s bathroom, but two for women. Finally, some place that gets that women often take longer in the bathroom than men do!
I spent time walking around the old port neighborhood, which has several beautiful old churches, saw a great art gallery, had a delicious crêpe for lunch.
After a while, my feet were getting tired from all of the walking, so I headed back to my Airbnb, stopping to pick up some food for dinner. Tomorrow I am going to explore Mont Royale, which the city is named after.
