Yellowstone and Grand Tetons

Quite a day of travel and sightseeing. Got up early and built a fire so I could watch the sunrise at our campsite. Got to spend a bit of time reading before we took off to drive through Yellowstone.

We did a huge loop and hit many different sites in the park with the exception of Old Faithful. That’s the only part of Yosemite I remember going to when I was a kid and we knew it would likely be very crowded so we avoided that area. Instead we checked out the paint pots, the Mammoth Spring Terraces, the Grand Canyon of Yellowstone and several waterfalls. We also saw lots of wildlife on the drive- bison, elk and deer.

I was pleasantly surprised with how light the traffic was- we didn’t even have to wait to get into Yellowstone. Though the lady at the entrance station did ask my sister if she and her mother were having a good time on our trip! After Christina stopped laughing she let her know that I was actually her older sister and not her mom. The woman was so embarrassed and apologized profusely, we both couldn’t stop laughing about it for the rest of the day. We did get stuck in a bison traffic jam at one point, but we had our audiobook to listen to so that helped pass the time while we slowly waited for the road to clear.

We made it to Grand Tetons at dinner time and stopped at a pizza place at the boat harbor where we sat outside enjoying our delicious pizza with a beautiful view of the Tetons. The final stretch of our drive to Jackson was watching the sun slowly sink behind the mountains, absolutely beautiful. I can’t wait to get out there and explore both these amazing national parks right in our backyard.
