Lake Hebgen

Got up early to take Javi for a walk before we hit the road for our drive to West Yellowstone. We went to a neighborhood close by and found an adorable little free little library.

En route we stopped at a very intact ghost town called Garnet. Very cool place to wander around, we checked out some of the numerous saloons, the hotel, school house and dwellings of all sizes. We had our lunch there and were amused with the family whose 10 year old son did not want to get out of the car and had to be corralled by the grandpa. This brought back memories of trips with my family!

On the drive we listened to some of our favorite Neil Sedaka tunes from family drives when we were kids (Oh Carol, Breaking Up is Hard to Do, Little Devil, etc). We found out that he had done a kids album in 2009 and changed the song Calendar Girl to Dinosaur Pet and had little kids singing back up- it was hilarious. We’ve also been enjoying a new audiobook, The Rose Code, about some of the women who worked at Bletchley Park during World War II. At least some of them are real people, one of whom dated Prince Philip before he married Queen Elizabeth!

Our campsite at Lonesomehurst Campground on Hebgen Lake is fantastic, it’s right on the lake, just a couple of steps down to the beach. Once we got the tent set up Javi and I went for a swim, very refreshing after a day of temperatures in the 80s and 90s. I built a campfire and played another game of war with Christina, which of course I won again 😌. We had our dinner then sat by the fire and made s’more‘s, watching the sky change as the sun set. The crescent moon was really bright, and the stars are out in full force!
