Spent the morning doing work on my two projects, then went for a walk in the neighborhood on a few streets I don’t think I’ve ever been on before. It’s amazing how many little hidden areas there are in Mill Valley. I also spent time trying to get Mom signed up for credit monitoring due to a data invasion at CalPERS. It was our second attempt to verify her identity and they still had problems with their system. It’s so frustrating when you can only talk to somebody at a call center who doesn’t have authority to do anything and you have to wait to hear back from a supervisor. We let CalPERS know about the problems we were having, hopefully will be able to get it figured out soon.
Mom was going through her pictures and found some of my kids when they were little – one of the girls painting on either side of an easel and one of Kieran and Emmy looking at a book about construction equipment. When I sent them the photos Kieran texted back ‘I work on everything in that book.’ Foreshadowing!
Later, I headed into the city to look after my favorite dog. Javi and I had a fun day together playing at Alta Park then at Ocean Beach. As always he was obsessed with chasing the ball and at the beach he loved to get his paws in the water. It was sunny and relatively warm at my sister’s place, and even though the beach was overcast, it wasn’t that cold. In addition to people strolling the beach and looking for shells and sea glass, we saw kids attending a soccer camp, a few surfers, about a half a dozen fishermen, and some people flying kites.
My sister took me out to dinner at a fantastic place in the Castro called Fable. They have a wonderful plant-filled courtyard with lights were strung up along the ceiling. It was like a magical fairy land, and the food was amazing. We basically rolled out the door we were so full. I don’t often eat like that (or drink like that, we had a yummy Sauvignon Blanc from Stoneleigh Vineyards in New Zealand) but when I do it is wonderful! The drive home was much better than my drive through San Francisco yesterday!
