It was a different kind of Mother’s Day for me today, not getting to celebrate in person with my children or my mom. It’s been a few years since I’ve celebrated Mother’s Day with all of my kids, since they’ve either been away at college, or living in New Zealand. I did get to talk to all three of them over the weekend and I also caught up with my mom. Annemarie and I FaceTimed on Saturday, which was Sunday for her, then Emmy FaceTimed me during her lunch break on Sunday since it was her weekend to work. I talked to mom later in the afternoon after she got back from Mother’s Day lunch at The Cantina with a couple of my sisters and then I talked to Kieran just before I headed to bed after he got back from a day at the lake with Kourtney’s family. He got to spend a lot of time jet skiing, so of course, now he wants to buy a JetSki! Boys and their toys…
I spent a good part of the day outdoors, even though it was overcast it wasn’t really cold. Earlier when it was raining, I headed over to one of the retreat houses that was unoccupied(it has a lion theme for some reason, I’ll have to find out why) and listened to the rain as I read and journaled, it was very peaceful. After the rain stopped I walked the labyrinth and breathed in the beautiful smell of wet sage.
I got out for a hike up the ridge and had some meditative time, staring out over the vast open space. Wildflowers are starting to pop up now that spring is finally reaching this part of the country. When you get out hiking you can see them, but they aren’t visible just looking from the road, all you can see is green and brown scrub and rocks. On my walk back, I saw what were either two hawks, or maybe eagles, soaring in the wind currents above the ridge, they looked so happy and relaxed floating above me.
