We got on the road very excited to start this trip. My co-adventures are my sister Christina and her dog, Javi. A 7 1/2 hour drive went really fast with very little traffic, we listened to a very compelling audiobook called Verity that left us not wanting to stop because we wanted to keep listening. Couldn’t believe how little snow there was on Shasta, I was just there in late May and it was covered in snow. Also saw the effects of last years fire with many burned trees.
We are camping at La Pine State Park, each site has its own water spigot and electricity outlet, very fancy! Set up camp then headed to the Deschutes river – the cool river felt amazing after the drive and 95 degree heat. It’s such a treat to go camping with another adult. I relaxed, read my book and sipped wine while Christina made dinner. Javi and I took an evening stroll along the river then we were all ready for bed. A lovely first day of the trip!
