Cleaning Up

I saw some really cool stuff on my walk this morning – a tree with a heart shaped scar on it, a rock with a heart drawn on it, and the fog settling in the trees above my old elementary school.

This weekend we cleaned up the backyard at my mom‘s house. My sisters, my nephew Theo, my son Kieran and his girlfriend Kourtney and I all worked together at various times over the weekend hauling things out of sheds and other spaces. We quickly filled the 4 yard debris box that we thought would be more than adequate, but were able to fit most everything else in a couple of vehicles to haul to the dump. We were amazed at all of the tools and things that my dad had, and the bits of wood and other random things we found. We joked there was enough to build a tiny home! Considering we literally found a ceramic sink, taps and a showerhead, I don’t think we were far off the truth. We laughed over the things that we had forgotten we had stored at mom and dad‘s house, and everyone ended up with a few good finds to bring back home. Several community members also benefited from our cleanup efforts as we gave away things like fishing weights, an aerobed, a vacuum cleaner, a new faucet, and a super eight camera! We were also able to help prepare mom‘s garden beds for tomatoes and do some other clean up around the house. We now have three practically empty sheds and one that is much better organized. Mom was thrilled and we all had a fun time working together. I’m so glad that I had the time to be able to get this all organized and to spend it with my family.
