Reconnecting and Creating

Yesterday I went by the CCCBA office, it was so wonderful to see all my old colleagues, hear about what’s been going on in their lives, and the great new things that the Bar Association has been doing the last six months. It felt strange to be there but not really know what was going on, though it was nice to leave and not have any responsibility!

After I got home Winston and I spent sometime in the backyard. Winston, sitting quietly in the sun, reminded me of my Dad who loved to be outside in the sunshine, working in his garden or napping.

Today I went for a hike in Briones with a friend (who brought me blood oranges and lemons!), it was perfect hiking weather, sunny and cool. The views were just gorgeous, and the trail was not too muddy. We had a wide ranging discussion from the filmWomen Talking (which I need to see!) to the impact of going back to places we used to live to all the misinformation there is about women’s health. After doing our loop hike we walked the labyrinth, such a hidden gem. I just love how peaceful it is there, I think I’ve only been at the labyrinth once when someone else has been there. Walking the labyrinth always makes me feel calm, partly because I have to walk slowly and pay attention where I’m going, also because it’s made of natural materials and is in a beautiful area full of the sounds of birds, the wind in the trees and now the flowing creek.

Tonight I went to a collage workshop at the East Bay Depot for Creative Reuse. I haven’t been there in years, I used to go a lot when the kids were young and we would pick up all kinds of cool stuff for art projects. It’s in a new location now, but it’s still full of all kinds of funky and fun things. A few things that caught my eye -The Police album, Synchronicity, one of my favorite albums in high school, I think I literally wore it out, I played it so many times! There was also latch-hook yarn, I made many latch-hook rugs and pillows in my elementary school days. I also found an amazing pattern for men’s Renaissance costumes, and teeth sets for $5 or you could buy ‘teeth in bulk’, four sets for $20 that came in a box!

The collage workshop was fun, with a group that ranged in age from mid 20s to mid 80s! There was great background music and a happy energy in the room as everyone got to work finding things that inspired them. We all ended up with really different pieces, it was so cool to see the variety of ways people used the materials available. The time just flew by, I think we could have sat there collaging for many more hours. It reminded me how much I like creating and that I need to incorporate more opportunities to do so in my life.
