It was a rainy, windy day, and I needed a day of rest after our busy trip to the South Island. I also woke up with a slight sore throat and thought it best to take it easy. I did, of course, take a Covid test, which was negative, so hopefully this is just a cold.
I think most people opted to stay inside, when I walked down to the pharmacy to get cold medicine, the only people I saw our were carrying items from the local dairy – milk, juice, bread.
It was so cozy to sit inside my little cabin and watch Wellington disappear and reappear (depending on the amount of clouds) sipping hot lemon, ginger, and honey or coffee and reading. I’m currently reading How to Listen to Pop Music by Nick Bollinger, a long time NZ music journalist. It’s been a fun book to read, he discusses his love of music from a very early age, and since he grew up in Wellington, he talks about several places I know about, and a few New Zealand bands I have heard of. He also talks about music from all over the world.
Yesterday, one of the podcasts I listened to discussed a new movie Women Talking by Sarah Polley, and referenced her last movie, Stories We Tell, which came out 10 years ago. This is the second time I’ve heard about this movie in the last couple of weeks so I decided this was a good time watch it, and I’m very glad I did. It’s a very intimate story about her family, and several surprises (some for the audience and some also for Sarah and her family) were revealed over the course of the movie. I think she’s extremely brave for being vulnerable enough to make this movie about her mother and trying to get a better understanding of her. It really shows how peoples perceptions change the stories they tell themselves and others. It was very moving and I am looking forward to watching her new movie.
In the afternoon, I was entertained by a Kea parrot chewing on the flax plant flowers outside my window.
