My last morning stroll in Christchurch was wonderful. I walked next to the Avon river and saw lots of sculptures, my favorite was a huge red elephant on a bench in the playground.
Annemarie and I set off for the gondola today so we could get a birds eye view of the greater Christchurch area. It was a fantastic spot to see the city, beaches and Lyttleton Harbor. Luckily we arrived just before a group from the huge cruise ship, the lines were crazy long when we left.
Next was a stop at the city art gallery where we saw impressive art from local artists, there were quite a few pieces that I wished I could buy (and fit in my luggage!
We passed more cool murals and sculptures on our way to the new art museum.
The art museum building is an amazing piece of architecture, all mirrored glass and curves. We checked out most of the exhibits, including a very interactive one where you determined the path you took through a roped area. Outside was a sculpture of a piano with a bull on top and a sign that said it was ok to sit on the bench, but not to climb on the bull or piano, lol.
We ended the day with a trip to New Brighton Beach, watched people fishing, crabbing and kite surfing. It was really windy and the kite surfers were flying!
