Started the day with a walk in the neighborhood then a delicious French toast breakfast made by our hostess. Later Emmy and I wandered into an olive oil shop and ended up tasting several different olive oils that were just incredible – so flavorful. Store bought olive oil pales in comparison! We then headed to Sculpterra Winery where we spent a lovely couple of hours wine tasting and sitting in the shade eating lunch and enjoying the beautiful sculptures scattered amongst gorgeous old trees and vines.
It was there we got some very sad news about the passing of a close family friend. While we knew it was coming, the end happened faster than expected. We had plans to go visit on Sunday and I feel devastated that we were not able to say goodbye. It’s hard being away from my mom during this time as it was the husband of her best friend who passed away and our families spent so much time together when we were kids. So much loss this year for Mom, many long time friends have died.
We decided to go to the coast, to cooler weather. Sitting on the beach, sifting through beach stones, listening to and seeing the crashing waves was very meditative. Watching kids playing in the surf reminded me that life goes on and that though we may not see a particular person again, they are there and will always have an impact on our lives. But we also can’t keep putting things off-eventually it will be too late.
