Dandelions and Spirits

It was chilly and grey this morning -fall is definitely on the way. When I took the dogs to the dog park I noticed several dandelions in the grass, just calling out to be picked and blown.  I haven’t done that in years – it made the morning much brighter!

Later in the afternoon I stopped in Novato in my way home to check out their little free libraries and was pleasantly surprised at how creative many of them were, one even had a ‘library’ for dogs with sticks of various sizes for them to choose! The kids section at one free little library had a lot of books that brought back memories from both when I was a kid, (Encyclopedia Brown, Beverly Cleary), and when my kids were little (Cam Jansen, Horrible Harry).

I stopped at a coffee shop called Dr. Insomniac’s and picked up one of their specialties, a scuffin, a combination of scone and muffin. The strawberry-blackberry one I got was delicious, the consistency was moister than a scone but not as sweet as a muffin, I think it’s a good combination. Novato seems to be a big place for Halloween decorations – some neighborhoods look like there is a competition for who can put the most Halloween stuff in their front yard. My favorite was what appeared to be a homemade tableau of a group of spirits dancing around a cauldron. It looks to be made out of garbage can liners and was very spooky and effective!

Tonight Mom and I caught up on Jeopardy while we had dinner-we’ve been amazed at how much the current winner, Cris Pannullo, knows about everything. I’m always excited when I manage to get something right that he didn’t know-which hasn’t happened often.
