Finding Her Beat

This morning Javi and I went for a walk to explore the neighborhood, check out local free little libraries and get coffee. It was very foggy, especially on top of Bernal Hill and we saw a coyote on our way back home!

I went to see an outstanding documentary film about women Taiko drummers called Finding Her Beat, part of the Mill Valley Film Festival. If you get the opportunity to see this amazing movie, do it! These women from Japan and North America are so inspiring and the culminating show, HERBeat, which took place just before Covid shut down live performances, left me, and most of the audience, in tears. The film producers and HERBeat event organizers came out at the end of the screening to talk about the process and answer questions, then they performed LIVE along with San Jose Taiko members at the depot square. I feel so lucky to see them in person! Whew, what an emotional afternoon.

Later my sister Michelle came over and made a scrumptious salmon and mushroom quiche for dinner-what a treat!
