To Kill a Mockingbird

I woke up this morning to the mournful blare of a fog horn, it made me want to stay in my warm bed and read. But, there were a few things on the agenda so I eventually got up, did my usual morning routine (Wordle, coffee, journaling, daily stoic reading, checking email) and headed out for a walk. I never know what I’m going to find whether I am walking one of my usual routes in the neighborhood or somewhere different. Today I was greeted by a very enthusiastic black lab and later came across a box of free items that included a record album from 1975 called ‘Educate Your Dog by the Eisenmann Method’ which touted the abilities of Chuck Eisenmann, a dog trainer who made frequent appearances on the Merv Griffin, Johnny Carson and Mike Douglas shows!

Mom and I went into the city today to see the play To Kill A Mockingbird which starred Richard Thomas (you may remember him as John-Boy from The Walton’s) as Atticus Finch. The woman that played the mean racist neighbor, Mrs. Dubose, was Mary Badham who had played Scout in the original movie version! It was a fantastic play, the performers were amazing, especially Melanie Moore who played Scout. It’s been years since I saw the movie with Gregory Peck, and it made me realize the more things change the more they stay the same, unfortunately.

Before the play we had a delicious lunch at Montesacro Pinseria Romano, with the most amazing bread selection, refreshing international wines that were different from the standard California fare and scrumptious pinsa, similar to pizza. The decor was rustic European, it was a lovely place to hang out, even the bathroom decor was cool, I just wish we had had time for dessert. 😋

I spent the evening pet and housesitting for my sister and a friend in a cozy cottage in Bernal Heights. Javi and I went out for a walk in the fog and came across some festive lights, some little free libraries and other fun things in the neighborhood. This is one of the aspects I love about doing these odd little jobs, I get to explore different areas that I normally would never have seen and spend some time with very sweet animals.
