Today was a catch-up day after camping for four days – got my laundry done, did grocery shopping and got a few more things organized for my trip to New Zealand – not long to go now!! I ventured out on a walk in a neighborhood that I did not know well, got some good exercise going up and down hills, enjoyed seeing Halloween decorations. I did a double take at one house when I saw movement among the decorations in the front yard and realized there were some deer having a morning snack! Later on my way back I ran into them again ambling down the street to see what else they could find to eat.
Last night my mom’s older sister, Roberta, passed away. Aunt Burr, as she called herself, was 96 and lived a long and wonderful life. Most of her kids and grandkids were with her when she died, which is exactly what she would have wanted. Whenever she visited us here in California or we went out to see her family in Arizona she told us lots of hilarious stories about our mom and her twin sister when they were growing up in Kentucky. Roberta was nine years older and had the job of looking after the twins when everyone else was working around the farm, so her stories inevitably started with the phrase ‘When the twins was little…’ I will miss her wonderful laugh and loving hugs.
