After breakfast I went for a hike that had views of the nearby reservoir, seems like the leaves are changing color even more in the two days I’ve been here.
After lunch Wendy and I went for a hike to the local Girl Scout camp with her daughter Adie and Adie’s dog Remy. It was a lovely late summer afternoon for hiking. Wendy and I had volunteered for many summers at Two Sentinels, the Girl Scout camp at Lake Kirkwood in the high sierras, so as we toured the camp we reminisced about our camp experiences-positive and negative. This camp, Camp Cloud Rim, was much fancier than what we were used to with wooden cabins and a large lodge, it even had electricity!
When we got back we relaxed in the hot tub, just what we needed after our hike. Then we met John for dinner, sitting outside and watching the sunset from the deck. Definitely felt spoiled! We ended the evening watching a bit more of the Ken Burns’ documentary on the Holocaust that we had started last night. Like all of Ken Burns work it is excellent, but very intense to watch. I’m learning a lot more about the background to the Holocaust and the US’s role.
