It’s been a much better couple of days. Mom is making steady progress and seems much happier. I’ve been able to concentrate more on my work, got a lot done with revising the current year’s budget and helping the Governance Committee plan for their upcoming interviews for the new permanent Executive Director. I headed out to Muir Beach to watch the sunset one evening, it ended up being a very windy night, though still a popular spot.
I’ve also been able to get out this weekend and spend time enjoying different community events. On Saturday, I dropped off tomatoes from the garden to one of my mom‘s friends at church, then headed to downtown Mill Valley to listen to the bands playing at Music in the Plaza. It was a great variety of music, from folk stylings at the beginning to energetic Cajun music and finishing out the day with a ‘Prohibition’ band playing 20s and 30s tunes. The groups of people enjoying the music varied as the day went on, there were lots of kids and their parents dancing around to the first band, later there were the over 60 crowd who were quite accomplished dancers. By the last band, lots of 30 something’s dressed up for a night on the town were enjoying the outdoor music.
In the morning, there was a 5 or 6 year old girl who reminded me so much of my daughter Annemarie at that age, she was wearing a sundress, multi colored leggings, sparkly shoes and carrying a bright pink purse. Another older girl had set up shop at one of the picnic tables, selling her old toys as a fundraiser for the Humane Society.
I took a break in the afternoon and walked to the library to get a couple of hours of work done. I lucked out and got one of the comfy leather chairs that faced the trees in front of a picture window. The guy in the chair next to me slept the whole time, so he obviously found the chair very comfortable! I got 2 1/2 hours of very concentrated work done, being in a lovely, quiet, serene atmosphere. When I left I passed a girl, probably third or fourth grade, talking about a project she was working on that involved charts, graphs and data visualization! Wow!
Sunday morning was very foggy. It was so much fun to walk around the neighborhood hearing a foghorn in the distance and being enveloped in a gray blanket. I enjoyed the cool weather while I could knowing I was heading to the East Bay, which would be a lot warmer.
I had a fantastic morning at a yoga/sound bath event at the Bedford Gallery. There were probably about 30 of us on our yoga mats arrayed around the art gallery while the instructor took us through yoga moves and used her different sound bath instruments. She was pretty woo woo to start with, it almost felt like I was in an SNL parody, but then I got used to it, and really enjoyed her soothing voice and the experience of movement while listening to sound and being surrounded by art. I would definitely do that again. I was particularly impressed that the instructors 90 year old dad was there, keeping up with everybody else! So impressive. The current exhibit is on collaging, and while I found a half a dozen pieces I really liked, the rest left me pretty cold. To me some collage artists just make bizarre pieces that are not interesting or even thought provoking, they just seem like a random bunch of things put together.
Later, I went over to Emmy‘s to hang out with her and Winston, enjoying the warm afternoon and evening. Winston loves to play in one of the bushes and often comes out covered in flowers!
