An Unexpectedly Eventful Week

A better week at work, getting to meet some funders and had more one on one time with staff. I also got to watch the kids enjoying their summer camp activities, one day making homemade Play-Doh. I’m getting the hang of the financial system with the very helpful CPA staff. I attended a meeting with Lazarex, one of our grantors, and the other nonprofits that receive funding from them. Our organizations help get the word out to our local communities about the support Lazarex provides to cancer patients and their families and their efforts to increase the number of diverse participants in clinical trials. It was wonderful to learn about the incredible work of the different organizations and the obvious respect Lazarex has for this work. One day I went for a walk to the post office and was greeted by two very friendly high school boys, not something that usually happens in other places I’ve worked.

Emmy didn’t work on Wednesday so she made us both a delicious dinner, salmon bowls! There was enough leftover for lunch the next day, which was amazing. It’s been so wonderful to have this extra time with her.

On Thursday night, I went to the Concord farmers market and music again, this time to listen to a new to me band called Dirty Cello. They were fantastic! The lead singer plays the cello and violin and has so much energy! They did a few of their own original songs, but mostly played cover versions of everything from Jimi Hendrix to the Rolling Stones and Aerosmith to Gloria Gaynor. She also sang Devil Went Down to Georgia and Harper Valley PTA – so much fun!

My Friday evening turned out to be very different than expected. Around 4 PM mom tripped and fell in the patio, injuring her wrist and hitting her head.  We headed to the local emergency department and luckily, things were pretty quiet there. They got her in straightaway, did a CT scan of her head and x-ray of her wrist as well as other assessments. Mom was completely lucid and was able to easily answer all of their questions. Thankfully there turned out to be no issues with her head. The wrist was another matter, she had fractured it so was put into traction to straighten it out then given a splint. Several hours later we were both grateful to get home, have a little dinner, watch some Jeopardy and then head to bed!
