Saturday was a cloudy day, with beautiful sunlight at sunrise. The clouds also made it cooler, which was much nicer for being outside. I took the dogs for a short walk, which got a bit crazy when Amicus ran after the neighbors dog and pulled himself right out of his collar! Luckily, he lost interest when he came across more interesting things to smell in the neighbors yard and I was able to get his collar back on him. Whew! I’m glad it wasn’t some kind of wild animal he was running after. Later, when I was walking on my own, I found some ripe blackberries and stopped by the local Amazon drop off point, which is at the base of a tree a half a mile from my sister‘s house -😂
I spent a little time in downtown Placerville checking out the vintage shops (saw an Avon Breast Cancer 3 Day pin from when I did the walk over 20 years ago, I guess that makes it vintage!) and art galleries where I bought some fantastic nature drawings. I fell in love with The Bookery, a bookstore that has bookshelves scattered at odd angles creating winding pathways through the store, an awesome bathroom with bookmarks pasted all over the walls and ceiling and 2 resident cats and a dog. It was good to get out and explore a little before I had to drive back home. I lucked out again with very little traffic on the drive home arriving in time to be greeted enthusiastically by Javi, as he and my sister were spending the night.
I was up early and back on the road Sunday morning to meet Julie for an outdoor yoga class in the yard of an old ranch house at the base of Mount Diablo. We were very happy the temperatures were cooler than they had been earlier in the week. We had a wonderful time doing yoga with about a dozen other people enjoying a beautiful view of the Mount Diablo foothills. We both loved the way the house was decorated in a comfortable old ranch style. There was a gorgeous stained glass picture of Mount Diablo hanging over the fireplace. It appeared that many of the decorations were from artifacts found on the land, such as wagon wheels, horse collars, and old iron pans and cutlery. There were also amazing views of the summit of Mount Diablo on the other side of the house. I can only imagine how stunning it must look in the spring when everything is green and wildflowers are blooming. The road leading up to the house was lined with old railway ties standing upright each with a different kind of rock perched on top. Very interesting!
Afterwards, Julie and I stopped at the local Peet’s for coffee and had a chance to catch up. We haven’t been able to get out and hike much lately, so it was nice to get to spend a little time together. I ran a few errands on my way home, then took a delicious afternoon nap. After the last few days of waking up really early in the morning, it felt so good to luxuriate in a cool room in the afternoon.
